Gov. Rick Scott after talking to families of victims of the Parkland school shooting at Broward Health North: “I just had the opportunity to go thank the physicians and the nursing staff that had been taking care of patients. And they’d been working hard here as you expect.”
Scott: “I talked to a few families that have individuals here that have gone through surgery. And of course they’re very concerned about their loved ones. They know their getting good care.”
Scott said he told the families to make sure they knew how to reach out to him. “I don’t know what to say to everybody other than the fact that we live in a state that people love each other and care about each other. This is tragic. It makes you mad.”
Scott says he has six grandkids now with the oldest 6. On every parent’s mind today is whether their kids are going to a safe school, he says. “I know our law enforcement is going to continue to do everything they can to keep every child in our state safe.”
Scott says he wasn’t able to talk to actual victims, just their families. “I think everybody probably internalizes this and says, ‘Gosh, what would happen if that happened to my family.’”
Scott: “My job as governor is to try to do everything I can to provide any services, anything they need, just try to be available. Hug people that want to be hugged.”
